I'd say the major reason is because of curiosity. My mother tongue is Mandarin and I can speak some Korean (because I used to live in Seoul for half a year as an exchange student), therefore I just thought it would be cool if I can also pick up Japanese and become capable to speak the three most important languages in the region. The other reason is my boyfriend is from Japan. We mainly communicate in English now but both of us think it would be better if we know each other's language and culture. The good thing is every time I learn something new, I can talk to him as practice, which really helps me remember the words and sentences. So far I really enjoy the Japanese class and I'm happy with the progress I'm making everyday. For the rest of the semester, I hope to continue enjoying the learning process and know more about Japanese language as well as culture.
